For more than 30 years, I have worked with dogs, people, and the often-messy space where the two learn to trust one another. Before dedicating myself fully to dog training, I spent 30 years as a social worker, helping individuals and families navigate challenges that rarely came with simple answers. That experience taught me to listen closely, look beyond what is immediately visible, and meet people where they are—lessons that guide every team I train today.

I founded Tattle Tail Scent Dogs in 2006 with a clear purpose: to help dogs use their extraordinary abilities to change the course of a person’s life. Since then, I have helped build more than 400 scent-based service-dog teams across nearly every state and four countries. My work has focused primarily on diabetic alert dogs, while also supporting teams affected by POTS, seizures, psychiatric disabilities, mobility needs, and other life-changing conditions.

My approach is not built around a single training method. It is built around the relationship between the dog and the person at the other end of the leash. I believe in developing each dog’s natural drives, creating clarity through thoughtful training, and building reliable skills one honest step at a time. Around here, “slow is fast” because lasting results are more important than impressive shortcuts.

I am also a breeder, mentor, trainer of trainers, and AKC Eight Point Hunt Retriever Hunt Test Judge. Whether I am evaluating a puppy, teaching a medical alert, helping a family through a difficult training stage, or standing in a field with a working retriever, my goal remains the same: to bring out the best in the dog while helping the person become the handler that dog deserves.

This work is not always neat, quiet, or glamorous. It comes with muddy paws, dog hair in places dog hair should never be, early mornings, hard decisions, and plenty of lessons in humility. But it also brings independence, confidence, hope, and a kind of love that can completely change a life.
